Inquiry about self-publishing

Jul 19, 2008 11:53

I had an idle thought the other night, while out walking the foster-dog-who's-getting-closer-and-closer-to-not-being-foster-at-least-in-my-mind-anyway.

If you want to self-publish a book, what does that cost and what do you get from it? What's a good service to turn to if one wants to do that? I might want to put together a bit of navel-gazing.

nagging flist for help

Bonnie Gillespie recommends Dan Poynter's The Self-Publishing Manual. If your navel-gazing is entertainment industry oriented you might consider partnering with Bon through her Cricket Feet Publishing arm. Good luck!

Um, I'm not real educated on the pros and cons of self-publishing, but there is a website www.xlibris.com that is print on demand (I think that's they're wording) and has different packages/options available.

I was looking at BookSurge, Amazon's POD. I was also looking at starting up my own small press...
