You know what I realized Tuesday evening?
That 80's music is now "oldies".
You know how I know? I was eating at Koo Koo Roo, and they were playing it over the music system. And then I realized: they play 80's music regularly at Trader Joe's, too. And at a few other stores. Which I realized means: they must feel it's offensive to no one -- that's what in-store music IS. No large chain in its right mind would gamble by playing something that might turn ANYONE on the ENTIRE PLANET off. Which means: songs that seemed "edgy" in my youth are now cute and cuddly, the kind of thing you laugh indulgently and wag your finger at. (Relax, don't do it, when you wanna come? Oh ho ho, silly Frankie...)
So if 80's music, the music I came of age to, is "oldies," then...it's official. I am a relic. The essentially-worthwhile portion of my life is over, and I am required by law to learn mah jongg, move to Boca Raton and talk incessantly about other people's illnesses while doing disgusting things with my larynx to control my own phlegm. Pretty.
