Yes, I'm totally obsessed with the ending of The Office the other night. And everybody's talking about every little thing that went on. I felt the need to write down my official interpretation of the last scene of "Casino Night."
My impression of Pam's "I think I am" answer to her mom on the phone was that it was a response to "Are you in love with Jim?" A good alternative that I heard out there could have been "Are you having second thoughts about the wedding?" but I think the former is what we were meant to take away from that exchange.
And about Pam's pulling away from the kiss and mouthing something and Jim's look in return...much speculation and fear and gnashing of teeth going on as to what was said or what it meant. I think that moment was just about Pam saying "Hey, wait, I need a minute," and Jim totally respecting that (like he always does when it's Pam), and then the two of them just taking a moment to process it, to acknowledge and marvel at "This is what we are now...we're no longer people pretending we're friends and not talking about the tension. We're two people who might very well be in love. We're potential lovers. We might have to face a big social snarl together, and we've moved from what we were, and now we're THIS." Because Jim didn't look upset to have been interrupted -- he looked intrigued, engaged with Pam, like it was one of their silent conversations. They were talking, in my opinion, just like always.
I think any of the mouth movements or whispered words or whatever were just what happened between the actors as they got themselves to that place. I think it's just what happened in the moment.
So that's my $.02. Thanks for reading. :)
ETA: OO!
Something interesting I found over at
theoffice_us, and I quote: "Earlier today, someone posted a link to the NBC recap of last night's episode. I clicked on the link, and when I came to
this page, the recap CLEARLY stated that Pam "admitted she was in love with Jim".
jillcet, who posted the link originally, even copied it and pasted it into the entry."
"Now? That line has been removed."
"Interesting!"
I'd say so. :) That thread is
here.
