sayuri2023 asks Who is your favorite author and why?
This is a difficult one for me, and I guess you could say that I'm in the market for a new favorite author. My favorite used to be Orson Scott Card, and I still do envy the way he's succeeded in several genres. If I could choose any author whose career I might mirror, I would probably choose OSC. However, when I found out about his very vocal, active anti-LGBTQ+ politics, I had to stop supporting his work.
My favorite books ever are Jacqueline Carey's Kushiel's Legacy series. There are three trilogies set in an around the world of Terre d'Ange, an alternate medieval France where the inhabitants are descended from angels and a masochistic, god-touched courtesan must save the realm (and perhaps even the world). Kushiel's Dart is such a wonderfully plotted book with amazing world-building. I like the first two trilogies better than I like the third, and I think they're absolutely amazing. But I haven't really been a fan of any of JC's other work outside the Terre d'Ange milieu, so I'm not sure I can really call her my favorite author.
I guess I'll let you know when I find one.
