melodic sensibilities

Guest DJ at Ceremony last night. Took her quite a long time to realize that Boston/Ceremony goth(ish) people want a melody, not just a monodic bass track, to dance to. She's the keyboardist for a band playing tonight. I won't be attending.

As usual, turning the spotlight on me, it strikes me how improbably lucky I have been falling in with these/our people. Only here would I get away with playing the results of scrabbling through 600 years of yes, melodies. It's been almost 17 years that I'm sure of, maybe one or two more - dating the clay tablets is ambiguous. Earlier that night I played Harold Budd, Satie, Holst, Bishop Ato [15thCE] Bach, Mirabilis, QNTAL, Love Is Colder Than Death, Dead Can Dance, Arcana, Corvus Corax, and Changelings. People said they liked it. Where else in the world could that happen?
