I totaled my car today. There's a 4-lane divided highway, 45 MPH speed limit, between an apartment complex and Merrimac College. No pedestrian crossing for 1/2 mile or so each way. So... a stream of young people risking life and limb (and everyone else's, too) darting across.
Well, 3 cars stopped in the left lane is not what I was expecting. I was taking my cat to the vet which complicated things. The cop was sympathetic and the guy I hit took me to the vet. His SUV might have a cracked bumper. My car's hood is now an accordion. I have insurance so at least I won't have to pay for towing or disposing of the car. Nobody was hurt.
I have looked at Consumer Reports for new or used cars in the 10-15K range. Used Civic or Fit, Mazda 3, Corolla or the like, a couple of GM and Chrysler things at which I shudder, and a Kia or two.
I'm trolling for suggestions and/or experiences with cars, dealers, online buying resources, etc. If a recent model car in good condition is for sale, why?
My last car lasted 17 years. I'd like the next one to last at least 10 or more. Ideas?
