almost?

Today and tomorrow are dedicated to removing the last big objects from the Newton house. W's sister and husband have been volunteered to help carry anything over 60 pounds - my limit before wrenching something.

Today is for arranging things in piles to go and removing obstacles. Tomorrow is for renting a van at 8:30 AM!!!! and shuttling back and forth. Of course, I forgot a physical therapy appointment in Chelmsford at 11:30. Something will be arranged to make that happen.

Dawdling 9 months may have an unexpected benefit. The real estate broker (cousin of W's boyfriend) who's pretty up on things says that prices have shot up over the last few months. Way up. Acton (the most egregious) is up 69%. She thinks our house could be sold for 20-25% more than we were asking last year. Bidding wars happen. So we think that paying her a commission to tout the place is a much better idea than trying to sell it ourselves. Who knows, maybe she'll give us a friends-and-family discount.

Greed is always a factor, but more money also pays for more dental work and (shhhhh) a new car when my 16 year old unbelievably faithful Honda Civic finally gives up (and don't let it hear this!!).

I still don't remember (and can't figure out now) how some of the objects got to the second and third floor. I know that several people from this community helped me (thanks!!) but no more than one at a time, and some of the pieces weigh two hundred pounds or more. Four people might be able to manage them, somehow.

Anything useful will be left outside for the village community to scavenge. Refrigerator(s) to the recycling center. Rugs and other debris out for a special pickup by the town. Last detritus either stuffed in a car or thrown away. People in to clean out the dust rhinos.

End of an era. One third of a century. S is heartbroken that she won't have her garden, her work of art, any more. I'll miss the incredibly nice neighbors. W will miss the folk house concerts next door. Still, it has to be finished *now*.
