Winter Break

Well, it's solidly into winter break now. Christmas and New Year's was great, and this weather is amazing. I mean, our Earth is fucked - it's been 60 degrees these past few days. I've been putting in some hours at N.E. Beverage, mostly in the morning. Since Brad left there's been a new guy named Chris working in the mornings. He's an excellent guitar player and he used to work at Guitar Center, so he has an intimate knowledge of both music theory and the gear.

I'm sitting in my room watching TV today, and my mom comes in and hands me a package that came in the mail. It wasn't a late Christmas gift and I hadn't ordered anything, so I was pretty curious. I open it up and it's a gift bag from Digitech! Digitech makes effects pedals and other guitar related accessories. They used a picture of me in one of their ads over the summer and they must have had my name and address from that. In the package was a Digitech gig bag for my pedals, a tweed-covered instrument cable, a set of D'Addario strings and a bag of guitar picks. So nasty.

I swapped out my old strings and put on the new ones. I was a little disappointed at first because the new strings are 10s and my old ones were 9s. This means that when I put them on I also had to adjust the tremolo claw and check the truss rod. It was a long process, but worth it: the new heavier gauge strings sound a lot better, but it might just be 'cause they're new. I also put on the old white pickguard as long as I was doing a whole set-up. I'll probably put the tortoise-shell one on again the next time I change strings.
