Yesterday was a beautiful afternoon and a beautiful warm spring evening. My husband and I went to the Minneapolis Guthrie Theater to see
Time Stands Still.
The play was amazing! After my last visit to this theater with girlfriends to see
Hey Fever, my expectations were pretty high. I was again amazed to see the beautiful stage set with a lot of details that make it look absolutely amazing.
The plot of the play is pretty dramatic but the genius writer made out of it a comedy. I was laughing and crying at times. It was a very psychologically intense play that dealt with many existential issues such as life and death, meaning of life, meaning of work, family, relationships, friends...
The story goes like this. A woman, war zone photo journalist got injured in Iraq and to recover from the wounds came home to America where she is figuring out what to do with her life. Does she want to have a family? Or Does she want to get back into the war-torrent countries? What is the meaning of her work? Taking pictures of dying people instead of helping them and saving them… Does she want to have kids and have a family? What is the meaning of her life? What is more important?
I know, just asking these questions, one would get sad and puzzled and there is nothing funny about it all. However, Donald Margulies brilliantly managed to make it a comedy.
I strongly recommend seeing this play!
