Time To Move

Harvey had never been afraid to live in New York City in all the time he had been here. It had always been home. The smells always comforted him and the massive crowds were a good thing. He liked his city. Everything about this place was amazing. The idea of living in DC to be with Annie properly was entertaining, but committing to it terrified him ( Read more... )

It was Louis that told Donna to get to a television and fast. She half expected this to be some sort of stupid prank on his part to get back at Harvey for this morning. She didn't plan for any of this. Her mouth dropped open, but no sound came out. It took her a full two minutes before she was racing back to her desk to get her boss on the phone. She was mid-dial when she heard the clapping of Jessica's heels. She had heard the news too apparently. They had four lawyers in that building, but Donna only really cared about getting news on one. She was getting absolutely nothing.

She was about to engage Jessica in her next course of action when the phone rang. She snatched it up and pressed it to her ear. "Harvey?" It wasn't the smug bastard telling her he was okay. It was Annie. She was to be her next phone call after locating information on Harvey, but it seemed the woman was already on the ball. "I can't get him on the phone."

Harvey rode doubles in the back of an ambulance with a woman who had her leg crushed. He broke a few ribs and there was cause for concern over him having a concussion. From what he had been hearing at the scene the fatality count wasn't that high, but people had still died. It didn't even occur to him to find his cell phone and call someone. His mind was still racing.

Annie's call to Donna that had gotten her nowhere (through no fault of that wonderful woman, of course), had only sent her blood pressure through the roof. The CIA didn't do domestic and they certainly didn't do domestic terrorism. That was a job for Homeland Security and the FBI. Not only was this out of her jurisdiction personally, but it was also out of it professionally. And though she had people she could call on for answers later, she didn't dare pick up a phone that way now.

Instead, she dealt with traffic the best way she knew how: by weaving in and out and putting the skills that the American Government had entrusted to her to good use. It helped shave a six hour drive to five, and then she used credentials she shouldn't have to get into midtown when she shouldn't. She went straight to Harvey's office.

With the relatively low body count and Harvey's potential concussion the doctors were able to slip him into a room. He was partnered up with another man who had suffered significant brain damage from an incident days before. There was a curtain between their beds, but the man took every opportunity to pull it back and ask Harvey his name again. The next couple of hours were pretty exhausting and the nurse's had put in a call to Harvey's office after he finally realized that he needed to let people know he was okay.

Donna let Jessica go down to the hospital and she stayed in the office to field Harvey's calls for the day and the evening. She was pretty good at running interference and just maybe she wasn't ready to see her boss in that shape. Mike had tore out of the office after he couldn't work anymore and fully intended to go visit Harvey. That left her alone with Louis roaming the office with a rather perplexing look. It was no secret the man had no love for Harvey, but the idea of him being in the hospital was probably a little unsettling even for him.

She was in the middle of a call with one of Harvey's clients when Annie arrived. The man was on a tangent and quite honestly she stopped listening after delivering the same song and dance she had been doing for hours. "Sir, I'm gonna have to put you on hold." She jabbed the button and dropped the phone back into the cradle. She stood up and forced a smile for Annie. "Broken ribs. Concussion. Mount Sinai. Room 409. I'm still running point, but tell him I'll be by in the morning." She knew that Annie would want the facts and she'd want them quick.

Annie hadn't even managed to get a word out before Donna was giving her all the right answers to the questions that Annie had on her lips. Instead of pestering her further, Annie just breathed a sigh, gave her a smile and nodded. "And how are you holding up?"

It was only because none of Harvey's injuries sounded life-threatening that Annie hadn't turned on her heel and walked away. Plus, saying that she was running point wasn't really an answer on how she was doing. Annie couldn't imagine what it was like being in the bullpen for her own ops, but she had a feeling that poor Donna now had a small glimmer of that.

She was going to have to do something very nice for her in return and her mind was turning over those ideas, almost running a secondary program while she took a breath and tried to calm down just a little.
