Well, it's official. We're part of the real estate casualties. As much as we love our home, we will be short-selling it within the next few months. Our mortgage's rate will become adjustable starting on our third year (Oct. 2009) and we decided not to compete with that BS. When we bought this place, we fully planned to refinance. But with the real estate (and our economy) plummeting, nobody is willing to refinance anymore. We thought of trying to ask for a loan re-modification but decided this might be our chance to just get out and take advantage of finding our "forever" home.
Then it became ridiculous how homes that were larger than ours were priced in the freakin' $250,000's!!!! And they even have actual front yards. It's always bugged me how we share a large driveway with 5 other houses. OMG, we need to get out. I've been in a bad funk for the past few months worrying about all this. But I've finally come to terms with it and realized, "it's just a house." I got all sentimental about all the things we've done here and how we picked out all our cabinets, flooring, etc. not too long ago. When we finally made the decision to short-sale, I started perusing our neighborhood for a new home for us. It's kinda been fun. Ted and I would pick a street and wrote down the addresses of homes for sale. Our lists are staggering! Looks like we're not the only ones going through this.
When I started going through MLS listings, I couldn't believe the pictures from the inside of these homes. Come on, peeps, at least clean up a little in your house for these pictures!
This one is hilarious. The colors are awful and the house is so cluttered:

I admit, Shea homes spoiled me with a free upgraded, stainless steel, granite countertop kitchen. When I look at the listings, I get turned off with tile countertop kitchens and weird cabinet choices. But I have to look at it in a different light. A lot of houses around my neighborhood are selling for a bargain! Ugh, if only we waited just a few months!
Anyway, that's what we've been going through. Wish us luck =)
