Alone on NYE
I'm gonna be on my own for New Year's Eve this year. Well, that's not entirely true. I'll be alone after about 11pm on NYE. Patrice's grandfather died over the weekend and she's heading off to Nebraska tonight for the funeral.
Damon was a nice old guy. He hit 97 in October, so he had a good run. He was in pretty good health for 97, and his mind was sharp as a tack, but he buried his wife of 60+ years in August, and often when a couple has been married that long, when 1 goes, the other isn't far behind. It happened with my grandparents too. He was the only person who called me Andy.
We made a point to go out to the farm and visit him & Irene every time we went back to Ne, because we never knew when this was going to happen.
So...while I'm here alone (she gets back on Saturday), I get to eat lamb every night and work on AMVIV stuff and work on the Mini and the Subaru. The Subaru needs front brakes, and the mechanic where I've had some work done lately offered me use of the hoist to do the work myself. I'm thinking I might take her up on that. The classic Mini has a hard brake line I want to replace, since I think I cross-threaded it when I was reassembling the back end, and I bought a set of braided brake lines for it too. A hoist would be a HUGE assistance in working on the classic. It's SOOOOO low to the ground! I also won an eBay auction for a dash gauge set for the classic. $41 shipped, and it includes a new speedo cable. Smoking deal! Even if I don't get anything else done, I want to get that installed and put the new bonnet stripes on.
