[A lot of wet splashing around and heavy, sickly wheezing. Hojo's teeth are obviously chattering hard. He's an old man, damn it. He's not built for this channel-crossing Olympic swimming horseshit.]
Irritating. I s-suppose the one advantage worth noting is that these devices are waterproofed.
[There's more splashing and rambling while Hojo beats

It surprises me that you didn't inquire.

About the kid? I don't know what the hell you're doing with him, but I'm sure you can tell me all about it when I get there.

Yes. That, and about my decision to publicise your dealings with me, though I daresay the purpose behind that is more transparent.

I was giving you the benefit of the doubt that that was an accident. ...What are you trying to do? Make things harder on me?

Perhaps it was.
... On the contrary. Honesty spares you having to make excuses when I need you here. Additionally, it's suitably advantageous for both of us, should your friendships uphold. You are clearly using me as a source of information and preserving the source, neither of which are objectionable when one considers that I'm unfit to cause your allies any difficulty.

You could have asked me first. Didn't you think I had a reason? It doesn't matter if I was doing something wrong or not, there are plenty of people here that have some strong opinions about you. Really doesn't make me look any better when you're the one to tell them. Or did you just want to put me in the same boat as you?

I intended to wait for you before attempting.

Perhaps. However, the majority of those with whom you're aligned are also allied with two of my failures, who I know well.

...You know, they might have a higher opinion of you if you had a better nickname for them.
Zack wasn't the one I was worried about. You're lucky they've got other priorities right now.

Should that time come, I'd rather not have you conflicted by the idea of exposing yourself as a traitor. Thus, I took the option from your hands.
Additionally, Zack is an advantageous tool. If he 'forgives' me, the majority of his group will also stand down.

That's great, but since I would be the one protecting you, it's my call on what tactics to use. If it came to fighting one of them, I'd deal with it, but I wasn't going to give it away before I had to. You're just giving them an excuse not to trust me, which doesn't help you.
We'll see about that. You picked a hell of a time to test your theories.

The longer it goes on, the more troubling it will be when they finally realise your role; it ultimately causes far greater distrust if an information trail is long-term. It's better to pre-empt suspicion; at the very least, you look more like an honest man this way.
Moreover, while it's convenient for you to monopolise my services, I feel that my potential for survival can be improved with a limited number of extra connections. Not enough to dilute the information flow, naturally. Not enough to make you redundant, either. Merely enough to show that I'm not just some oblique evil.
I'm also a necessary one.

I still don't see how I come out looking honest when I wasn't the one telling the truth. But if it works out like you say, I'll be impressed. Just don't expect them all to be as open minded as I am.
