It passed, we're boned...

This entry probably isn't what you're expecting. Yes its about the health care reform. Am I upset that it passed? You're damned right I am. Its complete and utter crap legislation that does nothing to address the underlaying problems of our health care. Its nothing but an exercise in vanity perpetrated by its chief architect, Obama. At best all its going to do is inflict excess bureaucracy into an already bureaucratically bloated system. I also tend to question the constitutionality of mandating that the American people purchase something from the private sector. Or anywhere for that matter.

However, as I said, this probably isn't what you're expecting. I would have been equally pissed had it failed due to the lost opportunity. We need health care reform. The Republicans were right to oppose this for the above mentioned (as well as many many other) reasons. That was only a small portion of their duty though. They sat by and made no attempt to offer any real and meaningful reform. They basically had the Democrats where they wanted them; with all of America watching the Democrats would have had not choice but to give serious consideration to a better alternative. Instead they chose to make this a strict political fight meaning that either way both parties failed America.

Following the vote I saw countless tweets and facebook status updates to the effect of, "well something is better than nothing." Really America, really? Since when does the United States of America settle for second best? When did we turn down that slippery slope away from innovation and leadership, away from hard work and sacrifice and into to the depths of entitlement and settling for mediocracy? The failure of Washington is reflected in the complacency of our citizens.

For those of you who thought you saw history being made last night, you're absolutely right. This legislation by itself is not the undoing of America; its merely the fatal step down that slippery slope which will destroy our once mighty republic. Washington needs a wake up call regarding their failure before its too late, if its not already. Perhaps Texas SHOULD succeed from the Union...
