So, I showed up with all my equipment and alot of energy. Set up my DJ booth on the deck at Stan's. Got everything hooked up, lined up, sound tested, arranged logically and comfortably...and it was AWESOME! Tested the mixerboard, the amp, the disco and laser lights...all was perfect. Played some playlist stuff to motivate everyone to work hard getting the bonfire ready, and even helped out by raking up the back yard and dance area.
I informed Stan that I wanted to do a couple of modifications to the tarp covering the DJ booth in case the rain we were expecting became heavyish. No sooner had I said that, lightning struck and immediately it began to rain. Within ten minutes a lake was falling from the sky. Six guys were crowded under the tarp holding parts of it taught to keep my expensive ensemble of electronic equipment from getting wet while I frantically packed everything and took it indoors. My subwoofer and satellite speakers were in the yard when the rain fell, drenching all three. Luckily everything worked fine when I got it all home and tested it out.
Needless to say, the plans we had of providing music and dancing--and my debut as a DJ--were shot to hell. Everything was wet. The yard was soaked. Even if the rain stopped in a couple of hours when the sun was ready to set, nobody would want to dance in the mud and I would be too nervous about another unexpected downpour to concentrate on providing a good set. Besides the fact that I threw my back out in the frenzy to protect my equipment.
So, hopefully Stan's Beltane/NoPaca party turned out okay in spite of the absence of music and dance lights. Still haven't located my fog machine. Hope it didn't get left behind!
