I have long stretches of time in which seemingly nothing at all happens.
This is not one of those stretches.
First off, in my backyard right now are four to five felines. Two of them are adults. Three of them are kittens. We don't know why they chose our yard, but I'm guessing that bushes along the fence and no dog patrolling had something to do with it. They are adorable, with two looking rather Isabel-like and one sort of gold with white paws. Isabel is not at all happy with this, going so far as to hiss and growl at them. For a cat that rarely does that under the most extreme circumstances (which here means trimming her nails), it's quite interesting. I usually take Isabel for a little walk outside in the back once a day, weather permitting, often just out onto the deck but sometimes out into the yard, but it's difficult to manage it when she's not happy with the interlopers. I have to be careful both for her sake and my own because there's no telling what these cats might have, other than fleas for sure. We're trying to figure out what we might be able to do with them because we're not taking in another cat due to Isabel and my father's opposition. Since these cats appeared, Isabel's been much more affectionate towards me, sleeping under my bed less and more on top of it and eating better. Usually she does the first two more when the weather gets colder, but it hasn't quite snapped yet. She's currently sleeping on my bed. This makes me happy. I don't talk about her as much as I should.
Second, I had jury duty today, which was hilariously simple just because there was no way in hell I could sit on the jury for this particular civil case. A rural postal carrier [1] was injured in a car accident [2] while working [3] when a man's 1980 Corvette dropped off the blocks, rolled 225 feet and crashed into her car. The defense's expert witness was the orthopedist whom my mother hated that she went to after her accident [4]. I marked off the reasons why for those following along at home. I laughed to myself and was sent home at 10 am.
Third, my parents have somewhat spontaneously decided to replace my mother's car. Discussions have been ongoing but lagged because my father was pressing for a more expensive car than what my mother wanted and my mother hates car dealers. Since they would end up arguing about it, I mediated by talking to my mother, doing a little research on my own and then talking to my father. It felt strange telling my father how to present this to my mother ("if you're absolutely sure that car you want is better than what she'd rather have, you better have a long list of reasons ready for her") after 30+ years of marriage. They went out Sunday afternoon to look and she stated that she's getting a new car Thursday: the very day the brand spankin' new Chick-Fil-A opens so very close to this very spot. It's very very.
