In today's depressing for feminism news

A) This is relevant to the interests of most of my flist:

"In the 2006-2007 television season, 35 percent of the writers of broadcast network, prime-time programs were women... In the 2010-2011 season, that number had dropped by more than half."

This really fantastic (and disheartening) article explores what happened, and why things aren't getting better: Why Is Television Losing Women Writers? Veteran Producers Weigh In

And people wonder why there are still so many problems with gender representation on TV.

B) In other news, I just got into a FB conversation with a real life acquaintance about female characters in ASOIAF in which he referred to Dany as "Daenerys Sue Targaryen," and I am currently so glad I claimed her for the "We love the women fandom hates" fest, because the knowledge that I'm about to spend a week raving about her is the only thing that stopped me from freaking out at him. In what world is Dany a Mary Sue? Did he just not notice all the mistakes she makes all the damn time? [/rage]

Of course, he also called himself a serious Bolton fanboy, so I don't know why I'm listening to him... Vauge ADWD spoilers: (Roose I can almost see -- I mean, given some of the people I fangirl, I guess I can't judge people who find cruel villains interesting -- but Ramsey? He's a good villain but I can't understand using the word "fanboy" in relationship to him. Ever.)
