Toyota Sienna 2008. Smell from air conditioning system.

The cause of a bad smell is usually a mold build in conditioning system.
Possible reasons are conditioning system drainage issue (summer time) or very high humidity, especially when you park your car in a garage with lack of natural ventilation.

To prevent mold because of high humidity, leave some windows opened in a car to allow natural air flow, so conditioning system have a chance to dry when you park your car after driving in wet weather conditions.

1. Drainage issue - this is causing mold to build up in summer time. Water can't drain, collecting on a bottom of a conditioning compartment (in some cases causing wet floor).

Open panel on a left side of the front passenger.

You will see rubber drain tube coming from a black plastic box through the floor to the outside of the vehicle.
Gently disconnect rubber tube from the box and pull out of the floor. Unclog the tube with water.

Put the tube back, make sure it is properly connected.

2. To kill the mold you can use lysol spray. Spray it to EXTERIOR air intakes of air conditioning system (below the windshield wipers). For rear conditioning system spray into air intake that is in rear baggage section on a right wall. Also spray it through the front central vent on a dashboard. Turn on the conditioning system on Max and let it work for 5-10 min. Turn off system and spray again. Repeat steps for cold, hot settings also switching the direction (up, down, windshield). Ventilate car with a lot of fresh air.
