[Sam is in the library.

But she’s not being a creepy mind reader like Charles, or trying to stalk people, or shelving books like Rem.

No, she’s actually leafing through them, making piles, and sorting.

And she doesn’t. Look. HAPPY.]

This is ridiculous, there’s not a bloody text worth anything in here! What kind of library is this ( Read more... )

[Oh, hi Kloe.]

Really? [She held up a book.]

You don't have books as fantastic as these?

Most of it is really old. There was a library walled into the city, but the majority of the books were recycled for their paper. Most of them are instructional and reference. Some poetry.

Books aren't very important when you have more important things to provide a couple thousand people with limited resources.

[She sets her book down.]

I suppose I could see that. [Though there was always value in keeping books. Always. Humanity had a tendency to lapse in on itself and repeat past mistakes - history continued to cycle and repeat itself and would, especially if the written records documenting said mistakes are gone.

But she can relate to the whole desperate times desperate measures, even if the situations were nowhere near the same.]

Can you tell me a bit more about where your from?

[See, this is the Anthropologist coming out.]

The beginning. What caused your...apocalypse, or whatever.

There was some kind of war? Which led to biological warfare that killed a lot of people. And before they found a cure, the virus they used mutated and turned them into zombies instead.

That's the basic gist of it, anyway.

[Yikes.]

That sounds... [Uh. Bad?] Horrific.

Zombies are pretty much fiction where I'm from. Bad movies, that kind of thing.

[Kloe laughs slightly in amusement.]

If I recall correctly, we started calling the victims of the virus zombies as a joke because of fiction.

They're not actually animated corpses. That's not even possible.

[Ignoring magic. Ignoring magic forever and ever.]

[It's okay so is Samantha.]

They're just...mutated into something not quite human, then? But still living beings.

Sort of like that, yes.

And what was your role in all of that?

[Nosy. Forever.]
