Character Information
Name: Agis Theobald Yule
LJ Username: (if available)
Agis_YuleAge: Twenty-four
Birthdate: December 25
Location: Hogwarts
Former House: Hufflepuff
Occupation: Hogwarts Librarian. Agis does most everything Irma Pince once did, and then some. He keeps the library orderly and clean, hounds down students if they've failed to return a book, and keeps the noise level at a reasonable volume (a constant battle). Unlike Pince, however, he spends much of his time helping students locate references and research material.
He doesn't make much of a fuss over students accidentally dirtying or damaging any of the books, as one of his best subjects was Charms and he's quite capable of fixing them. The most he'll do if a kid comes in with a particularly abused book is raise a brow at them.
Being a firm believer in keeping dangerous books out of incompetent hands, he has placed several jinxes on the entrance to the Restricted Section. When a student comes in with a signed permission note from a Professor he has to accompany them to the back to keep them from setting anything off.
During the summer he goes home to Edinburgh, having set up arrangements a few months in advance to rent a room in a house or something like that. He doesn't see much point in holding onto a place for the whole year when he won't be spending it there.
Bloodline: Halfblood
Heritage: Scottish, Korean
Personal History: Theobald Yule was a pretty normal wizard, his father a Scottish Muggleborn and his mother a British Korean Pureblood. He was on an assignment for work the day he met his wife. The Department of Magical Law Enforcement (Magical Equipment Control, to be precise) had sent him out, as they often did, to repair a malfunctioning ward. In working condition, the ward would repel many a manner of magical creature, ensuring that they keep away from areas with high Muggle populations (having to send in Obliviators to wipe clean the minds of children who encountered boggarts under their beds was never an ideal situation.)
This particular ward happened to be located in the back yard of one Charlotte McMillan, a normal Muggle. Charlotte was a student at the University of Edinburgh, and had been cramming that day for an upcoming Archaeology test when she spotted a strange man in her garden waving a little stick around. That alone would have been strange enough, but he outdid himself when a large altar of glowing light suddenly appeared and he began poking and prodding it, whisps and lashes of glowing light coming from the end of his stick as he went about his task.
Miss McMillan had always been a rather curious person, and so she had rushed downstairs and poked her head out the back door, trying to determine what exactly he was doing. He noticed her, spurring the beginning of a relationship between the two when he decided against notifying the Obliviator Headquarters that she had seen him working. He was so taken with her that he allowed her to ask him questions, answering fully. He was in direct violation of the International Code of Wizarding Secrecy, but he hardly cared at the time.
Within very little time the two became engaged, waiting until Charlotte was done with school to get married. After that, it wasn't long until Agis was born one sleepy Christmas morning. After him, four sisters in quick succession. The Yules were the happiest family on the block, if not the most hectic. Agis' quiet nature, bless his little heart, wasn't well suited for dealing with a household of chaotic women, but he loved them all the same.
It became clear early on that all five Yule children possessed magical ability, so it was no surprise when Agis received an acceptance letter from Hogwarts. Up to that point Agis' parents had been homeschooling him and his sisters, so he relished the prospect of living away from home, if only during the academic term. He was quite happy that he had two whole years before he had to worry about any of his siblings coming to join him.
At Hogwarts he was sorted into Hufflepuff, the sorting hat thinking a good few moments before announcing its decision. It considered sorting him into Ravenclaw given his appreciation for learning, but throughout his school years Agis was glad he was sorted into Hufflepuff, for of all the houses his was the most relaxed and accommodating. He did well in school, and upon leaving decided to pursue a career with the Department of International Magical Cooperation, working with magical governments of other countries.
But after four years of playing friendly with difficult representatives from one particularly self-important country, Agis decided it just wasn't for him. He found himself longing for his days at Hogwarts when he had spent countless hours studying in the library, enjoying the quiet, simple pleasure.
So it seemed almost too good to be true when he heard that Hogwarts was looking for a new librarian. He quit his job, knowing that even if he wasn't hired by Hogwarts that he still couldn't bear to work there anymore, and applied for the position. He was ecstatic when he was accepted, a rather strong emotion coming from someone normally so reserved.
As the librarian, Agis has spent three happy years at Hogwarts.
Personality: Reserved, quiet, and broody. Agis was the kid who usually sat off to the side in class, trying to avoid the teacher's notice long enough to take a nap. Perpetually sleepy and calm, his nonchalance can be quite irritating at times. It takes a lot to make him really smile, even more to make him angry.
He's awfully tolerant, and he makes a disgustingly nice friend. You could probably betray him in the worst of ways, but as long as he was convinced you were sorry he'd be perfectly capable of forgiving you on the spot. He hates conflict and drama, avoiding it like the plague.
Agis is very laid-back, made obvious by his lounging about the library with his nose in a book when there's no work to be done and no noisy students to shut up. He's never been naturally gifted or intelligent, every ounce of smarts he has he gained through hard work and study. He's a very determined guy that way. He's somewhat OC and obsesses over keeping the books in order. If he were to see someone misshelve something he'd freak out a little on the inside.
He would never admit it, but he's a total mama's boy. She's one of the few people that he willingly uses an owl to keep in contact with. He can get quite attached to people and be very caring, even if he doesn't show it as clearly as some. He adores students that come into the library, their little minds firmly set on finishing an essay. He loves helping them find proper resources, and he's even been known to tutor those that desperately need it. He likes being helpful. This makes him a great person to turn to if you need aid with something, or if you just need a listening ear. He can sometimes dish out some good advice, and he's not too bad at comforting crying girls, as he has had plenty of experience in that field dealing with his four younger sisters.
Physical Description: Curly dark brown hair, somewhat long and unkempt. Dark brown eyes, very pale complexion. Stands at 5' 11", weighs 165lbs. Defined musculature, but not bulky.
Agis is actually quite fashionable, although he insists that he buys designer clothing because it's well made rather then because he's vain. He loves being warm and comfortable, so he's usually wearing some kind of sweater or jacket. He's normally somewhat formally dressed, even when he's not working. Dress shirts with the sleeves rolled up, ties, sweater vests/turtlenecks, and slacks are what he's usually seen wearing. He likes to stick with neutral tones.
The most casual he gets is jeans and a t-shirt, but that's very rare. He wouldn't dream of wearing something threadbare, couldn't even imagine wearing anything stained or torn. In his opinion, being well dressed is one of the simpler pleasures in life.

Agis had just finished shooing out the last student of the night, a first year Hufflepuff who had put off finishing her Potions essay until the last possible moment. He had only been able to convince the hysteric girl to return to her common room by promising to open extra early the next morning so she could finish it before classes started.
He had something of a soft spot for struggling students. He also cherished the thought of a first year Hufflepuff doing well in Snape's class. He was sure it must be a rarity. Just imagining Snape begrudgingly giving her a decent grade brought a small smile to his lips.
He began to go about collecting a stack of materials for her, to quicken tomorrow's process and hopefully alleviate some worry. The kid was going to have a hernia if she didn't get it finished in time.
Now, what had been the topic of her essay? He thought for a moment. "Ah, boil cure potion," he muttered aloud, heading towards the Potions section. He located a helpful looking book entitled Extraordinary Ingredients from Mundane Creatures and pulled it off the shelf. By "mundane creatures" it was, of course, referring to nonmagical animals. It was sometimes quite easy to tell if an author was a Pureblood, he mused, no appreciation for nonmagical things at all.
He was just about to take 101 Uses for Marsh Urticaceae down off a particularly high perch when he heard the distinctive sound of labored breathing.
He quickly turned to look down the aisles, but could see no one. Perhaps someone had been in a rush to get to the library before it closed? "Go to your common room, it's past curfew. Don't want to get caught in the halls, do you?"
His voice had held a bit of friendly chiding, but as the moment drew on with no reply, the labored breathing not becoming more satiated as it pulled in air, he began to feel a bit off. The hair on the back of his neck prickled and goosebumps spread across his skin.
"Who's there?" he called. No answer. Only labored breathing.
