Eastside Apartment Fire Kills Cat & Snake

Feb 26, 2007 05:59 PM

From the KOLD News 13 Newsroom

Fire investigators say a heat lamp was knocked over, and that's what started a fire at an eastside apartment, in the 6500 block of East Golf Links Rd.

No one was home at the time, but a cat and a snake died in the fire.

Firefighters were able to save another cat.

Damage is estimated at about $120,000.

1)It was not my apartment, but it was my sister's.

2)Firefighters were not, in fact, able to save another cat. I had to spend a fucking half hour on the phone trying to track down the cat before I finally found someone who could (graphically) describe the cat's current condition to me, to which I had to tell them to put the cat down IMMEDIATELY. More on that later.

3)Firefighters need some serious sensitivity training. "So, here, you'll see where your other cat tried to hide in the cabinets under the sink before he died. Oh, and there's the body!"

4)The Red Cross is still a model of efficiency. After bragging about how much more efficient they are now than during Katrina, it took three hours to get a debit card activated.

5)No, there was no insurance. But she'll be okay money-wise.

6)Weirdest. Day. Ever. No, not ever. But weirdest day in a while.

7)Also, thanks local news. It was really sensitive how you filmed my sister crying her eyes out.
