The full moon was up, and the wolves were howling. There was just enough light to see a target over the desolate landscape. Any other night, and Elisa would have called it beautiful and wished for someone to be out there with her, looking up at the stars. She’d snuck out a couple of times just for that, when it had been possible.
Today, however, was not like that.

They’d started in the morning, a routine hunt, a simple mission to gather information like they had been on dozens of times. Except today.

The mission had been off to a bad start - they were two members short due to illness. They had started later than expected, during one of the peak feeding

Then, it had all gone south.

Intel had sent them to what was supposed to be a relatively calm area. Instead, they were surrounded, in such a way it led them to believe it was an actual trap.

Martin and Rob had fallen first. Their screams still resounded in Elisa’s ears, and she shivered at the thought. There hadn’t been enough remains to turn - at least that was something they didn’t have to live through. Still, so close to the cure …

Next, she had seen Chelsea and Sheppard sneak around, while Sam was dragged into the furious crowd. Elisa hadn’t waited any longer, had seen an escape and made a run for it. Only an hour later had she stopped running, and realized she had no idea where she was or in what direction she had gone.
