Kim opens her eyes. At some point during the night she might have fallen asleep but time just ceased to have meaning. She remembers last night in detail but still doesn't know how she feels. Sometimes

Chase hasn't slept all night, but when he drags himself out of bed in the morning, he finds himself at Kim's door, which he opens without knocking. "Kim?" he says, almost pleadingly.

[agirllost]

Kim's turned towards the wall. She may or may not hear him.

[_righthandman_]

"Kim, please. Please wake up." Chase swallows, terrified by her unnatural stillness. "Say something. Please."

[agirllost]

She isn't asleep, she's just...not entirely there.

[_righthandman_]

Oh god. This is not right. This is very, very not right. Chase half-falls onto the bed and clasps her hand. "Kim! Kim, I need you with me right now, okay? Please. Everything's okay, I promise you everything's okay. Tony's going to be fine. Can you hear me?"

[agirllost]

Someone's trying to talk to her. She hears his voice. But he's wrong, doesn't he know that he's wrong?

[_righthandman_]

Chase doesn't know what to do; he's never dealt with this before and it's scaring the shit out of him. His hand is trembling as he squeezes hers. "Kim, can you hear me? Please, just let me know you can hear me. Tony's fine. He's alive, he's fine, we got there in time. We saved him. Do you hear me? We saved him. He's alive." His breath catches a little on what he tries to pretend aren't tears, for her sake.

[agirllost]

She blinks and finds her voice, if only to explain.

"You can't save both of them."

[_righthandman_]

Chase's heart jumps. At least she can hear him. At least that was a response, if a troubling one. "What do you mean, both of them? Nobody else is in danger, Kim. It was just Tony, and we got there in time, we rescued him. Everyone else is just fine."

[agirllost]

"Dad called and said he was sorry and he had a gun."

[_righthandman_]

"What?" Chase shakes his head, taking a moment for his heartbeat to slow down. "No, Kim, that's not possible. I just saw him not that long ago. He's fine. He's just fine, but he's worried about you."

[OOC: Have to go, but I'll be back in about 45 minutes.]

[agirllost]

[ooc: no problem.]

"He said that there had to be justice. And she killed him."

[_righthandman_]

Chase shakes her gently. "Kim, that was just a dream. It was just a dream. Nobody killed your dad. And nobody's going to kill your dad. I know it was a bad dream, but that's all it was. It didn't happen; it's not going to happen. Your dad will be fine."

[agirllost]

She shakes her head. "He pulled the trigger."

[_righthandman_]

"Kim, you're not listening..." Chase closes his eyes. It doesn't matter how stubborn he is; she isn't capable of being comforted by reason right now.

He sighs. "I know how rough this has been for you," he says softly. "I know. And I know you aren't seeing things clearly right now. So I don't know what else I can tell you, but I promise you, everything's all right. Trust me. Everything's fine. And...and we're all here for you." He swallows, and gently brushes his hand against her cheek. "I'm here. And your dad's here. I promise. I don't know what else I can say."

His voice begins to break, and he leaves it at that.

She reaches up and holds his hand against her chest.
