For those of you wondering when oh when would I be back online on a more regular basis, well, wonder no more: as of yesterday M and I now have our own laptop, up and working and everything, courtesy of M's mom and our own persistent window-shopping (so we knew where to go and what to get when the time came). It's a pretty basic machine but it is SO SO nice to be able to mess around on a home computer rather than go to the library or to a cafe; so I hope to post everywhere more often and will get down to writing in earnest tomorrow.
On Thursday evening we got back from Scotland, a lovely place - I like it more each time, but then I'm always there when the weather is good (lately)...Friday afternoon I had an Oxfam manager interview - I thought it was for their fine Books & Music shop in Kentish Town, turned out it was for their re-opening boutique! My application was of course FULL of book talk as you'd expect, but they interviewed me anyway...not sure what if anything that signifies, but the result remains to be seen. Another interview on Wed. and then back to the Chelsea shop, where I am guessing I will be taking care of books and who knows what else...
Albums what we have gotten lately: The Double Cross by Sloan, Pala by Friendly Fires, Robert Mitchum's classic Calypso - Is Like So..., Frank Black and the Catholics' excellent Pistolero (how much have I missed it - how much of what I like stems from this year, '99), Sugarland's The Incredible Machine and Groove Armada's Black Light. All over the place as usual, and I may as well add Thelonious Monk Quartet with John Coltrane at Carnegie Hall, Omar's There Is Nothing Like This...not to mention, before we went up to Scotland, the latest by J.Lo, Beastie Boys and TV on the Radio...
Whew! Must get back to book-proposal-thinking and tonight's shopping list...
