Quake

Quake is 7 years old now. He is starting, just ever so slightly, to get gray. I look at him and wonder where the time went. He is down a couple pounds at the moment, I think he is having trouble digesting the new food. Stools are semi solid. I'm going to try a kibble/raw mixture and see how that goes. But otherwise he looks and acts great. I got to spend a lot of one on one time with him over the last 4 days, probably the most since we were on the east coast in 2007. Quake is like that kind of best friend that you can just hang out with and not feel like you have to talk about anything. Its just comfortable to be together. Its always pretty much been that way with us. When I'm sick, he sticks by me. When he's sick I stick by him. We've flown and drove all over this country together and he is a great traveling companion, couldn't ask for better. In some ways he's surprised me. I mean, Dock Dogs? Winning Speed Retrieve events? Really? Whoda thunk.... He is so multi talented and wows people with his mad frisbee catching skills when we go to the park. I'm sure he would have excelled as a frisbee dog...if I could actually throw one. He does well in herding and these days in agility he is like putting on a old comfortable pair of pants. I look at hime and wonder if there is anything he doesn't do well. My kids call him "The A Student". Haha. We did struggle a bit early on in agility because I was just not ready to handle a dog with his kind of speed and drive. I had been competing for a few years when I got Quake and figured that I knew a lot about handling. LOL. Not. Quake revealed all my bad habits and made me realize that if I was going to get this dog through a course, I needed to throw out everthing I thought I knew about handling and start over. Quake taught me a lot and has made me a better handler today.

Quake has a lot of confidence in himself and the world around him. Life is just one big adventure and party. Even going to the vet is a social event for him, he has to say hello to ALL the receptionists and vet techs. When when I took him home as a puppy he never cried. He was awake, alert and looking around. Wiggled hello to TSA at the airport and had all the flight attendants cooing over him on the plane. He was quite the charmer even back then. He just took it in stride then and still does today. If there is one thing that I love about Quake the most it is his personality and his outlook on life. I can only hope to reach that level of coolness.

Love ya bud.
