Dock Dogs Weekend

Well, what a weekend….and I was really on the fence about going. I’ve been feeling very unwell all week and didn’t go to work on Thursday or Friday. Was still feeling a bit under the weather Saturday morning, but how often does a dog event happen 10 minutes from your house? And great thing about Dock Dogs, they allow day of event entries. So Saturday morning I packed up my stuff and made the 10 minute drive to the location to set up and pay my entry fees. And I’m glad I did, because: 1. I really needed to get out of the house, and 2. Quake and Swift ROCKED this weekend. I don’t remember all the exact jump distances (although I did put some on Facebook), but Quake was very, very on, with most of his jumps in the 22’ to 23’+ foot range. He was a retrieving fiend in Speed Retrieve, the only non-retriever in the class and he beat them all for a win. That was really sweet. We were 3rd overall going into the Pro Big Air finals, but I think at that point both of us ran out of gas. In the finals his jumping was off and my throwing was off. We were in a great position to win that event as well, but it was not to be. We ended up in 7th place overall. But that’s ok. It was still a great time, he had a blast and I had a blast.

Swift was also not to be denied and his jumping gets better every day. He still stops at the end of the dock and bunny hops (an absolute riot to watch) like Quake used to do, but there is less hesitation with each jump. His best this weekend was 13’10”. His stays are eroding away so I’ll have to work on those again, but even so, its great to see him get so excited about jumping. Sadly, this was the last local event of the year, but I’m glad I started doing Dock Dogs events again. The people are great and my dogs really love it.
