And Jim Butcher is fabu. We got to hear him read from the latest Dresden Files book yesterday afternoon, and then last night he did an unscheduled reading from his new steampunk novel--neither of which are out yet. Both of them are going to be awesome. He is super down-to-earth and also very funny; I am so glad I got to meet him. Are you jealous?

Jim Butcher is awesomesauce! I miss him! The last couple cons I went to, there were so f'ing many people that it was impossible to do more than say 'hi'. (Granted, one of those was D*C, so you know, but still!)
He's gonna be in Houston in August, but I don't know if I'll be able to go, since a 3hr drive is a little more than I like to do for a 'day trip' and hotel rooms cost monies. If he'd just swing over to my actual big-ish city, I could con from my apt! =)

Like I say, I missed my CONduit peeps, but this was just amazing.

funny story - first time i went to a con to meet Jim - we all 'invaded an IHOP' - his idea. =) there were like 12 of us. it was awesome. *g*
at another con - some friends and i gave Jim a couple hours to be 'just a guy' - b/c we ordered pizza and sat on the floor in the hotel lobby and ppl walked by for a good hour or so and didn't even realize he was sitting there on the floor. but it was really cool b/c he got some time to hang out w/ Fred (his BFF from before he was 'famous' *g*) and be a random dude at a con, instead of 'author or awesome books guy'.
So yeah - if I can find a way to swing the cash, I'll go. Otherwise - I'll have to keep waiting. *lesigh*

If I'd never met Jim before, I'd do a lot more twisting myself into knots to be able to go.
But, yeah, unless someone decides to send me a con ticket and a hotel reservation pre-paid for my b-day, it's v. likely I won't go. I'll be lucky if I can swing a flight back to my parents' for the holidays this year.
