So, a friend of mine, the handsome and hard-working
Dan Wells, has a new book coming out on Tuesday called "
The Hollow City," about a man with schizophrenia who finds out that some of the monsters in his head are real. Now, Dan is a brilliant writer, and I was going to go to the book launch on Tuesday, because I like Dan and want to support him, plus I don't know how much more I'll get to see him because he's moving to Germany, where he is the David Hasselhoff of Horror.
I toddled over to Amazon to see how much this book was going to set me back and just about plotzed when I saw the cover price. Perhaps I would not have plotzed so much were I not assiduously saving to go to WorldCon in Chicago in August. I am all for supporting my local independent bookseller. But I'm not sure it's worth the extra $10 hit to my wallet right now.
...and I see via his webpage that he's going to be looping around to the area again twice more before he goes winging off to Germany. This opens my options.
