I've been getting some... really good ones, lately. I mean, for rejections. I'd rather they were sales, but if I'm going to get rejected, this is the kind I want. LOL
And this one, I think, made it past the slush reader, because...personal, signed letter, from the actual editor, which I haven't gotten before from this magazine. Yeah.
I just wish I had something else to send them. I should get cracking on that.
Congratulations. A non-writer would think I was kidding, but I swear by the hairs of the nose of Zeus, I kid you not.
There are three steps to rejections: 1. a form letter 2. a form letter that indicates what is wrong with the story 3. A personal letter that tells you what is wrong with the story
A personal letter that asks you to make changes is technically a form letter, but it really is tantamount to an acceptance.
So it is like climbing steps. You are now good enough to merit an honest assessment of your work and an editor's considered judgment.
I collected a hundred rejection slips before I got my first sale.

I've collected 85 rejections and four sales, one to a SFWA market. This is a good thing, right?
