End game
is in sight.
Of course, this brings up a whole 'nother set of issues.
Like the fact that Alex (not!Tony) has seven other people in his house right now, while the Bad Guy is on his way to come and deliver a beatdown. None of these people, probably, will want to, or even should, leave.
We have Ben (not!Harry), whom the Bad Guy still
wants to kill as well, because one of the guys Ben killed in the linked snippet was the Bad Guy's nephew. Also, Ben is a soldier and a werewolf. He definitely shouldn't leave.
We have Janni (not!Harmony), Ben's girlfriend and Attack Angel (because "Guardian Angel" is far too mild a term). I don't see her going anywhere without Ben. She's also a werewolf.
We have Marilyn (not!Perry), a tough-as-nails old broad who doesn't put up with guff from anyone, least of all Alex. She's Janni's mother, and a private investigator. I don't see her leaving without Janni.
I can't see Megan (not!Pepper) allowing Alex to push her out the door, no matter how much he insists.
Doc Allen should hang out because, well, he's a doctor. They'll...probably need one or two or six of those by the time this is over and done with. He won't be part of the action, I don't think--they'll squirrel him away upstairs until the smoke clears.
I could totally see McFoucher taking off. She doesn't have a personal stake in Alex's or anyone else's well-being. However, she helped Alex when he went to try to cure the Bad Guy's wife, so the Bad Guy might come after her next. Safety in numbers, etc. She might be better off staying. And then throwing herself in front of a silver bullet for Ben.
Chambliss, Alex's English butler, would probably hang out as well. Because he wasn't always a butler, and neither is he actually English.
So. I have all these characters. I need to give them all something to do. The Bad Guy, presumably, will have minions. And so I have to figure out, if this is going to be a pitched battle, how soon will the neighbors call the cops? Will the neighbors call the cops? Alex has a shooting range in his basement, after all, and his house sits on fifty acres of land. They might not notice anything unusual.
I have three characters (Ben, Chambliss, and Marilyn) who are proficient with weaponry. I have another two (Alex and Janni) who can make do--Alex because of the aforementioned firing range, and Janni because her mom's a PI and taught her, and also she carries a little .380 with her sometimes.
This leaves McFoucher and Megan. Megan is a werewolf--but Alex doesn't know and can't find out (because this would totally spoil the whole "I'm a werewolf"/"So what?" reveal in the not!Iron Man story). McFoucher is a doctor--so maybe I should squirrel her away with Doc Allen upstairs and just bring her in at the end. Ooo. Yes. That plants a scenario in my head quite nicely. I should write that down in my little notebook so I don't forget. Is done.
Megan...what is her role here? It's stated in the not!Iron Man story that she's never killed anyone before. I can't see her leaving, but I can't see her being part of the action, either. Hm.
Also, why are they not calling in the cops, or the National Guard, or someone? Because the Bad Guy is a werewolf and Alex doesn't want anyone else getting hurt? Why don't they all just run? And Alex's house (it has been stated) can be locked down. However, I just figured out what leverage the Bad Guy uses to get in, so, go, me, at least there's that problem solved.
I've also realized that I haven't had a payoff for the line where
Ben wondered if Alex was going to have to put him down. And really...I should have a payoff for that. It's too delicious not to.
