Pro Club Weirdness

Apr 22, 2008 22:32

There are two main, big, aerobic rooms in the Pro Club that have treadmills.  One is upstairs and one is downstairs.
Normally I go downstairs, but a couple months ago, I wanted to avoid seeing ESPN so I could watch my TiVoed version of the one nationally-televised, non-NBA TV Pacers game for the season later.  So I went upstairs where I couldn't see the ESPN TV, which is off to the side.

I had a really good run.

Then, about a month ago I randomly decided to run upstairs again.  Another great run.  It was at this time that I wondered if there was something about the room upstairs that gave me more endurance.  So the next four times I ran, I alternated downstairs and upstairs, all roughly at the same time in the morning.  In each case, I could easily run about a mile longer upstairs than I could run downstairs!

FYI, the rooms have identical treadmill models, and I don't always choose the same exact treadmill.  I suppose it's possible that I somehow am running faster when I go downstairs.

I have various theories.  It could be that, since the TVs are higher up downstairs, I'm inclining my neck more and somehow it's affecting my breathing.  Or, perhaps there is more oxygen upstairs; after all, downstairs is more crowded.

Or perhaps there's the small chance that I just felt better on all the days when I ran upstairs, or that I am otherwise crazy.

I am thinking about asking people who run in those rooms to try both, and record which one they run farther in.  (but not to tell them which one I think is better)

Of course, then there's the question of, which room should I frequent?  It's certainly more fun to run longer, but then again, it uses more time, and if I'm somehow getting the same work out in less time below, maybe I should do that?  Of course, I can always achieve that effect by making the treadmill faster.

Weird...
