We went to see Michael Bublé concert last night. The man can perform; he sounds as good or better live than he does on disk, and he had a pretty good band. The band was arranged in this sweet modern-looking setpiece of a big, paneled, sloped surface with three flat platforms cut out of it. Those areas housed, from right to left, the "Big Band", the drummer/bassist, and the strings (piano and guitars and other strings).
There were these sweet rotating hologram projectors at the top of the stage that were doing some pretty complex stuff. Even with binoculars I couldn't tell exactly how they worked, but I'd like to find out.
The band stuck to the basics on the album songs, though they threw in nuggets like Smells Like Teen Spirit and YMCA to mix things up. He always ends songs by pumping his fist... it's a little creepy.
My only complaint, and it's a big one, is that he talked too damn much. First of all, he spent a bunch of time wooing the 13-year old "cuties" in the audience and going out and hugging women. *yawn* Then, since it was the last night of the tour, he kept gushing about just how wonderful his band and crew had been and how great it was to close the tour in Seattle, which being from Vancouver he somehow felt a deep connection with. *yawn* Oh and he remembers Steve Largent. He also spent 5 minutes introducing his band. *yawn* For $85 bucks I want my four extra songs back.
There were, however a couple good lines in his shout out to the guys. (the audience was only maybe 30% guys) "guys, it may not seem like it, but this night is really for you... I'm just trying to put some air in the tires for you... she may have dragged you here, but you're nobody's bitch!"
