Simon - AKA Rockytime Plaudit
Our old appaloosa gelding died yesterday. He was around 44 years of age. It's really sad. We only have one horse left - and he's really upset. He's been calling out, screaming at the top of his head since Simon was taken from the barn yesterday. You can hear him crying all the way over to the farmhouse. The border collie who lives in the barn can be heard occasionally talking back, but has been no consolation. Simon and T have shared a wall and window for 25 years and have been attached to each other, freaking out if the other was out of sight for any period of time.
The good thing is, Simon went quietly in his sleep. He went down 2 days before he died - was lying down and didn't want to get up, but his heart rate was fine and his breathing was OK and he was eating an drinking so we let him be - we had decided to call the vet in yesterday if he was still down, but thankfully nature took it's course and he passed peacefully and we didn't have to get a vet involved.
