The Magician King doesn't suck! I actually like Julia now! Eliot is super well handled and not the token homosexual! Only tiny thing part is annoying so far (I'm almost done with the book and spoiled the end for myself)! This makes me excited! Yay!

My UST ship of all ships (Eliot/Quentin) still sails strong. The first book left me with the impression that Eliot has feelings for Quentin, but doesn't know how to really express them/if Quentin would be interested - why else would he engage in a threesome with Quentin and Janet? Yes, there was booze involved, but I don't think "drink 'till she's cute" works when you're not attracted to women. It's text canon that Quentin has a crush on Eliot but never does anything about it because he's socially retarded. And Eliot was an alcoholic mess the first book and Quentin had a girlfriend.
Also, the very last bit of Quentin in Fillory involves him being kissed by Eliot, and that's the one he actually feels. So, yay!
I still totally plan to write requited E/Q at some point, probably during the bridge years between books, which would be them settling down into their roles as kings and queens of Fillory.
We don't see much of anything of Janet, except at the very beginning, but I think it's safe to say that given the character growth Quentin and Eliot had, that she grew up, too. They're so mature compared to who they were when they went to Fillory, the guys especially. Eliot is happy. Quentin is much more sure of himself and he knows himself much better than he did in the last book. I love them all all the more now.
(though what happened to Eliot's wings?)
And god, poor Julia! D: That was so fucked up. Like, mirror!verse status fucked up. I cringed and felt nauseous on her behalf and cheered for her. Her story was so fucking SAD and bitter and painful, and yet she picked herself up every time and kept going somehow. Possibly because she didn't know how to do anything else, but still!
I hope this makes some sense. It's a quarter past five am right now and a waxing moon, close to full. I can't sleep during this time because my window is south facing.
So yeah. Anyway. Magician King rocked!
