Who is surprised?

The next time I felt somewhat human human again, and this is what is keeping me awake at nights to this day, is The Last of Us.

When the release hype was around a few years ago, I knew on sight this was something that was going to change me. I’m not a gamer - I seriously considered robbing a bank to buy a console just for the idea of this game alone, but it didn’t happen. Well, it only occurred to me a few weeks ago that by this time there would be game walk-throughs on YouTube and wouldn’t you know, success.

So I chose PewDiePie as my first exposure and am SO GLAD I did. He can be pretty annoying sometimes, but he was *totally* invested in the emotional side of the story while also giving a pretty thorough cover of the gameplay and by the end, my world was completely rocked. Having someone there with me during the journey was awesome.

Then I watched a “movie version” which was great for getting all the interactions individual players might have missed, but lifeless and hollow as a first viewing as there is no extended gameplay and too much editing.

Then I watched TheRadBrad’s playthrough which was much more thorough on the gameplay part (something that interests me, but I have no desire to do myself), but he completely did not get the emotional side of the story so I can’t recommend him as the first viewing.

Then came fanfiction and screencaps and the soundtrack and the making-of’s and more looking around at PS prices (because the remastered caps blew my freaking mind)… I have been living and breathing Joel and Ellie for two weeks. Is there anyone out there with me? Send me your fanfic links - you know my style: Ellie/Joel NC-17, focusing on the ending moral issue(s)/dynamics as you KNOW I SAW IT. I’ve picked through AO3, but nowhere else.
