Ianto has some ties - AT LAST

Ianto's ties - 1/6 scale action figure sized

Another pic - different light:

Download and print the pattern. HERE
It's a jpg file - Make sure you don't have the "shrink/stretch to fit on page" option on and print it out at 100% - The 100% size is 7.5"x13" - use legal sized paper!

All seam allowances are 1/4"

1) Cut out your tie

Because the ties are so tiny, very thin fabrics are recommended - Very thin silks, taffeta, etc. If you are specifically trying to replicate Ianto's ties, here is a tip: Shop for cheap ties at thrift stores... You just may find the right patterns in miniature if you are patient - I did! Tear apart the ties with a seam ripper and you should be able to create a couple of miniatures with the resulting fabric. And a super-awsome catalog of all the ties Ianto wears in S1 can be found HERE!

2) Fold the tie where indicated at each end - Right side of fabric to the inside. Stitch down the points.

3) Clip the seam allowance and turn the points right side of fabric out. Use a grilling skewer or some other object to tap the points of the tie in place and iron them down. Do your best to get a very sharp angle at the points at this step, you won't get a better chance.

4) Fold the tie down the center line - match up the edges and pin together firmly. Sew the long edge the entire length of the tie. Depending on the grain of the fabric, this may be harder than it sounds - Be sure that you haven't skewed the edges before stitching or you will get unpleasant puckering/twisting in the finished tie.

5) Clip down the seam allowance to 1/8". The end result will look better if you iron the seam flat as best you can now, before turning the tie. A dowel shoved down the tube can help with this.

6) Carefully turn the tie right side out using the skewer (or whatever tool you have you prefer) to help push the fabric through.

7) Iron it all down flat, positioning the long seam down the center of the back.

DONE!

Except... You need to know how to put the tie *on* the doll...

I recommend THIS SITE to learn if you don't know how. No matter which knot we *think* Ianto uses, I recommend the four-in-hand for this because the scale throws off the final look - the four-in-hand creates less bulk than some of the others.

My finished ties (so far):

The ones that closely match Ianto's ties in the show:

========================

Gag Reel...

ONOEZ! An alien has infiltrated the hub and hypnotizes Ianto!

It's a bad week at the hub... Another creature gets in! IANTOLOOKOUTBEHINDYOU! (I hope he has kept up his LOLCATZ...)

Kitty is bored with this nonsense and is distracted by a shiny thing...
