Contaminated pet food situation

Mar 17, 2007 20:52

Several people on my f-list have already posted about this but I want to make absolutely sure my core group of friends hear...  There is a huge, serious recall on pet food going on in the US and Canada.   Another LJer (who unfortunately has an affected animal) has created an extremely comprehensive post with links here: world_events

Whoa, thanks. Looks like it's only canned food?

From what I'm reading it looks like it's that "chunks in gravy" type of food, but I'm keeping an eye on the situation - They may find additional brands/types as they investigate and the word gets out to the vets.

So far, Zelda's brands have not turned up on the list and I don't feed her the chunk style. Phew!

Yeah, our cats eat the good ol' Cat Chow in the big blue bag, so I think all is well. And yay for Zelda, too. That's good. *pets everybody*

Crazy recall, though. And scary for a lot of pet owners. Could you imagine if something like this happened with people? They'd shut down the country. *shakes head*

Well, we *have* had a few incidents... Like that lettuce thing a few months ago and it seems like I remember other state-wide things like that in Wisconsin. I'm becoming increasingly worried about the state of things. I think we've anti-bioticed, bi-engineered, and pesticided ourselves into a real crisis here.

Thanks a million for this. Luckily, this doesn't include us, but it's absolutely terrifying nonetheless, and my heart goes out to those who are affected.

I'm so glad Virginia is ok! We've had mass-recalls on pet food before, but this time it appears to be truly serious... I'm waiting to see if they ever figure out *what* the problem is...? It's alarming to think that animals are being so seriously damaged so quickly. :::shivers:::
