My poll yesterday has told me two things:
1) Ticky boxes are awesome and if there were more of them, we might actually achieve world peace.
2) 10th Kingdom never really made it over the pond.
So here is a picspam/pimpage post.
10th Kingdom was a mini-series on American television in 2000 (That recent? Wow, seems so long ago, somehow...) The fandom is small, but still strong today. There was canon mention of a sequel/second series which was never made. The fans have never given up hope (and it could still work, story-wise, no matter how much time passes.)
Summary: Two centuries after Snow White and Cinderella had their adventures, the Nine Kingdoms ready themselves for the coronation of Prince Wendel, Snow White's grandson, to the throne of the Fourth Kingdom. But an evil once-queen has freed herself from prison, and turns the prince into a golden retriever. Wendel, by means of a magic mirror, escapes into a hitherto-unknown Tenth Kingdom (modern day New York City) and meets Virginia and her father Tony. Pursued by trolls, cops, and a wolf in man's form, the three blunder back into the Nine Kingdoms and begin their adventures to restore Wendel to his human form and throne, and find the magic mirror that will take Tony and Virginia back home, all the while unknowing that Virginia already has a connection to the Nine Kingdoms that may prove deadly before we reach Happily Ever After.
I wish I had the abilty to record a wmv or something of the opening title - It's just the coolest thing ever... I tried to capture the idea of it with caps...
As we sweep through New York riding an areal cam, small magical things start popping into existence (pigeons burst into fairies, etc.)
The city starts to morph... The Empire State Bldg blossoms out into a mountain.
A famous hotel starts to grow castle features.
Grass and rivers swell and overtake parts of the city.
The city at half-morph.
The city is almost gone.
It's very cool.
EDIT: Wait! YouTube *rocks*! Check this out: Title sequence
HERE In the end, we are left with this gorgeous logo:
Which is something that's bugged me for years... When the videos/DVDs came out, the logo had been changed into several different versions - All with the Twin Towers, not the Statue of Liberty. It's bugged me to think that was about 9/11 and that they would take such a cheap shot. I don't know what the story behind it is/was - I'd like to know.
You can get an idea of the whole main cast (which was huge) on the box covers above... I'll just picspam the answer to "AgentX lusts for..."
The *easy* answer is The Huntsman. His whole, "She offered me the crossbow." speech kind of seals the deal. It really has nothing to do with Rutger Hauer... Really.
But really, it's a hard call... Wolf is amazing. Really, really amazing. Scott Cohen does incredible things with the part and Wolf is complex and very well written. Yeah, let's just call it a tie.
Wolf piccies:
Wolf being worried:
Wolf being sad:
Wolf being... Well, wolfy...
I could go on all day with caps of the amazing things Cohen does with his face and body to portray Wolf. Really extraordinary.
I should mention Virginia. She's very, very beautiful. Rowr!
Don't get the videos - they are edited down significantly. The DVDs are a 7 hour commitment.
