This isn't going to be awkward AT ALL . . . .

Today was a rather interesting day.  Instead of spending the day at the office, I got to go on a bit of a field trip.  I spent the day at Bryant University at their Women's Summit.  It was very cool, and I had a good time.  I went to a kick ass session on bridging the wage gap, and I picked up a really nice red leather handbag (no seriously, it's really nice, and it was FREE).

I signed up to go to this in January, and at first I wasn't sure about going because I wasn't sure if any of the classes would appeal to me.  But hey, a few of the women I work with were going, so I figured it would be good to hang with them away from the office for a day.  Anyhoodle, I didn't pay attention to who the speakers were or anything like that.  I just signed up for my classes.

Fast forward to this morning when I met my co-worker to drive to this thing.  One of the first things she said to me was, "The keynote speaker should be really interesting, I wonder if she will talk about everything that's happened the past couple of days."   Who was our keynote speaker, you ask?  None other than Geraldine Ferraro.

And BELIEVE ME, EVERYONE was wondering what she was going to say, and even some people were wondering if she would come at all.  As it turns out, she did come, and she gave a nice speech.  She talked about herself, women in politics/government, and she did talk a bit about why she endorsed Hillary Clinton.  No real Barack Obama bashing (although she made a comment that out of the four candidates she thought were best suited for the presidency, he was not one of them), and she pretty wisely avoided talking about her recent comments.

Overall I enjoyed it, and I do admire her as a pioneer for women in this country.  She has lived a remarkable life, and had to put up with crap I will never have to deal with because of the path she and others have blazed for women in this country.  HOWEVER,  I still cannot get down with what she said.  It was almost a surreal experience being in the same room with a women who just last night I was yelling at on TV for saying completely non-sensical things.

Funny how things like that happen once in a while.

wierdness, politics
