Hmm, now I'm really curious as to the process that ended up happening to get copyright releases... One thing to not do due diligence. Another thing to just get out and out lazy about it and not double check the releases were there before actually using shots. -_-

I read on one source that the due diligence was handled by a 3rd party. all this reminds me of Ian Malcom....

"[you] were so preoccupied with whether or not they could that they didn't stop to think if they should." ah well.

Times are sure a changin'

It was. And by resume, someone that was supposed to be fairly reliable at that. I'm pretty sure it's common out in Hollywood. I'm also pretty sure it's common for crap like this to happen, but that most of the time it doesn't get caught somehow.

I agree with you... i'm fairly certain that its very common. Its not that it doesn't get caught, its more like most professionals don't act like morons. There's likely a process involved; an NDA and a settlement of sorts. I'm fairly certain acting like a petulant child and spreading it all over the internet is hardly the proper course of action. I can't claim to know what Darrell and BGZ's true motives are... but i believe that its NOT about copyright... and more to draw attention to themselves.

Certainly not outside the realm of possibility, though it's admittedly a bit hard to figure out what exactly they could gain by merely bringing attention to themselves. I'm not creative enough to see what the long term play for that is.

Then again, it could actually very well be about trying to force a settlement for their price. $28000 is a lot of money they're asking for usage rights for photographs, though perhaps that is also to cover the lawyers. But if they put out some noise, it's quite possible that they are trying to force the issue to get SyFy to settle before things get too out of hand.

I did Mention I think they're idiots right?

this was only brought to my attention by a Lawyer Friend of mine. They State that their Demand Letter does not conform to Standard Legal Representation would use, therefore igniting the possibility that the letter was constructed by Darrell and BGZ.

Lets be realistic... I don't think SYFY has the budget... 30K could be the magic number for the budget of each episode of the show. Which is CHEAP for a production. Could it be that BGZ is in the Camp to shitcan the show?? I was recently alerted that there is a movement to accomplish just that.

Yeah Ben, for a dopey TV Show? yeah right...

its not that crazy... people take up dubious misguided crusades all the time. a good example... THE CRUSADES!! Slaughtering a bunch of people just because they believe in a different god.

...a bit hard to figure out what exactly they could gain by merely bringing attention to themselves.Oh Jason... my rational logical friend.... we are talking about the nonsensical machinations of morons... Bred deep in the ( ... )
