I'm going to start a gay-straight alliance.

I've been planning this all summer, with determination & a great deal of trepidation. Because, y'know, this is Tennessee. I'm going to get bombs in my locker. Harassment and bureacratic roadblocks, at the very least. But somebody's got to do it, because...it needs to be done.

Anyway, so I lucked out and ended up with some friends who had already been thinking of starting their own GSA, but were dithering because they weren't sure anyone would come. And we're totally all going to start one. Soon.

::scared::

I asked my (ZOMGTEHFRACKINGAWESOME) English teacher about sponsoring us. She said no, that she didn't agree with "the gay lifestyle" (::giggles at term::), that she appreciates and respects gay people but doesn't want to be involved in anything like that because it goes against her beliefs. Nice for her, but it doen't help us. I'm glad she was honest--I was afraid of mutterings about a busy schedule and lower marks on homework assignments, which is infinitely worse than flat-out refusal. Anyway.

So now I'm thinking of asking my biology teacher, who is very nice and logical and straight-down-the-line. Not necessarily someone I'd closely befriend, but she's one of those organizational leader-types, which I'm er...not. So it'd be nice to have her on my side. I don't know.

...Did I mention yet that I'm scared? O_____O
