1. What is one thing you did in 2005 that you'd never done before?
Moved away from my hometown.
2. Did you keep your New Year's resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
Um. No comment. >_>
3. Did someone close to you give birth?
...No, but Mary from church is pregnant. The kid is due around my birthday next year.
4. Did anyone close to you die?
Luckily, no.
5. What countries did you visit?
Well, I'm technically still visiting the U.S....
6. What would you like to have in 2006 that you lacked in 2005?
Academic challenges and motivation. I want a reason for doing schoolwork that I could do blindfolded in my sleep.
7. What dates from 2005 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
July 6, when I sliced my thumb open and got fifteen stitches; July 12, when I turned sixteen and got my driver's permit; August 7-11, when I left my hometown and drove halfway across the continent to live in a new country, and specifically August 9, when I met
bloodraven77. ^_^;
8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
Learning to drive the Millennium Falcon (A.K.A. the great huge grey Dodge Maxi-Van) on these winding Appalachian Hills roads without crashing and burning.
9. What was your biggest failure?
Not having done any schoolwork to speak of so far when I could have been done with English and math by now.
10. Did you suffer illness or injury?
As mentioned: sliced my thumb in half and got fifteen stitches. And then immediately afterwards got the most horrible case of pinkeye. >_<;
11. What was the best thing you bought?
A battle-axe as a gift for my fantasy-weapons-obsessed cousin.
12. Whose behaviour merited celebration?
My friend Quinn, for a number of personal reasons. My tenth- and eleventh-year science-and-math teachers (two different people, each teaching both science and math for one year), for being so spiffy and making it so interesting. My parents, for understanding that I don't really fit here or want to be here and trying to make it easier for me. And of course my LJ friends, for putting up with my rants. :)
13 Whose behaviour made you appalled?
A lot of people, mostly people I'd never met. Politicians who support torture and illegal domestic spying. The surprisingly numerous people who have 'Don't be a girly-man--vote Republican!' on their bumperstickers. Et cetera.
14. Where did most of your money go?
Lots of places. I wasn't very careful with it and I should've been. Most of it for food and stuff when Nen and I were staying down here without the parents.
15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?
Moving (at first). Meeting BR. Going to YC. Not much else.
16. What song will always remind you of 2005?
"Nemo" by Nightwish, "Atmosphere" by TobyMac, the entire Phantom of the Opera soundtrack, and "Walk on Water" by Audio Adrenaline.
17. Compared to this time last year, are you:
i. happier or hardened?
Um. Less emotional. Quieter. Older. Different.
ii. thinner or fatter?
About the same. Vaguely roundish.
iii. richer or poorer?
Very slightly richer.
18. What do you wish you'd done more of?
Schoolwork, dammit. And things that were worth-while.
19. What do you wish you'd done less of?
Pointless angst and time-wasting, and getting into head-against-concrete-wall debates with people.
20. How will you be spending Christmas?
Staying at home, not going to the church service which I happen to think they shouldn't be holding, opening presents, being happy.
21. Did you fall in love in 2005?
22. Any one-night stands?
... ::bursts out laughing::
23. What was your favourite TV program?
The Dead Zone.
24. Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year?
I don't hate anybody. No, honestly.
25. What was the best book you read?
Oh, God, how can you pick just one?! Um...Either The Scarlet Letter or Jane Eyre (which I may have read partly in 2004). Or possibly Fahrenheit 451. ::wonders::
26. What was your greatest musical discovery?
NIGHTWISH!!!1 And The Phantom of the Opera, which doesn't count because I already knew who Andrew Lloyd Webber was.
27. What did you want and get?
I wanted to not spend another winter in Fort St John, which turned out to be one of those 'be careful what you wish for' situations. And I wanted Canadian/British candy--OMG THANK YOU SO MUCH,
brainache!!!!!1 ::glomps::
29. What did you want and not get?
I wanted 'Julian', a.k.a. Ryan I----n. I'm probably never going to see him again. It was horrid teenaged angst. He was eighteen and really, really sweet, and adorable, and tall and shy and wore a trenchcoat, and walked me home, and smelled good. ::sigh:: So I fell madly in love with him, as I am wont to do. But, that wouldn't have worked anyhow, seeing as I'm now in Tennessee. So it's pointless thinking about that.
30. Favourite film of this year?
Ooooo. Um. Frack!
1) The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy
2) The Lion, The Witch And The Wardrobe
3) Star Wars III: Attack of the Clones
4) Charlie And The Chocolate Factory
5) Mr and Mrs Smith
31. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
I didn't do much. My thumb was really hurting and my dad and sister were gone to Tennessee. I got my learner's licence (yay!) and then I hung about with
crazilyinsane, and then Mum and the kids and I went to Fogg'N'Sudds and had steak and shrimp. And Abigail gave me JRRT's 'Tales from the Perilous Realm' as a birthday present, with 'Farmer Giles of Ham' and 'Leaf by Niggle'. =D
32. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
Knowing for certain that I was going to move to Tennessee, and being able to say good-bye to people and make plans, instead of having a total of about ten days before we left in which I was positive we were going to move.
33. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2005?
What the hell? It's comfortable.
34. What kept you sane?
Books. My sister
nenya_kanadka. Livejournal. E-mail contact with friends back home. And believe me, I needed help keeping sane.
35. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
Nicole deBoer (leather pants OMG!).
36. What political issue stirred you the most?
Torture/lack of trials/general bad treatment of prisoners by the oh-so-above-all-that Americans. And not just that it happens; the fact that it's bloody legal.
37. Who do you miss?
Oh Eru. EVERYONE.
crazilyinsane,
cassielolivari,
coldestcaress,
sensualmonkey,
elvenriver,
mrsbell,
kraryal, Quinn, Laurel, Madeleine, Ryan, Ellen, Pastor Tom, Mr Arsenault....everyone.
38. Who was the best new person you met?
Um? Prolly
theldara, who I haven't really met in person yet. Or maybe Del.
39. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2005:
It's never easy to be the dissenting voice. And that doesn't mean you'll get outrageous, easily obvious persecution that you can spot and quickly identify as such. And it doesn't mean you're allowed to persecute people who disagree with you. It means that it's damn hard to say "I disagree" when everyone else is saying "I agree." It means that people will smile sympathetically at you, or tell you that you'll grow out of it. It means that people won't take you seriously. It means that people who you otherwise respect and hold in high regard will say things that are just a little bit wrong, and you sometimes don't know whether they're wrong or right or mostly wrong or mostly right or what the hell is going on. It's damn hard to be the dissenting voice. And the dissenting voice is not always right, either.
