Hair as a tool of Oppression,

I never realized how hair standards oppressed people of color, especially the black community. Because if you have nappy and dreaded hair you were rarely hired because you dont fit the "company image". But thats what all black people have and consequently left out of the workforce. But also leaves an imprint on your identity, especially on for black women. which can be expressed here though India Arie and Akon. Plus its a dope song and video!!

But it also made me think of my hair and my identity, because too have curly hair which could possibly dread and fro. People always told me i was lucky i should grow it out. but i choose to keep it short, which i thought was just personal preference. i always wanted straight hair like my filipino side. Sign of internal opression?? Maybe?? but i don't think i was ever left out of the job because of my hair.
I was also introduced to the topic by adrew jolivette, awesome professor btw, in our Mixed-Race class. Soo much better then wei-mings Asian of Mixed-heritage, sorry!! this class also hits me personally too, we watched this great video called "just black" and its about all these Mixed people who where part black. It hit me hard cuz i could relate to all their experiences. I found myself very inarticulate cuz i wanted to speak on everything, included how i was affected by hair. but theres a lot of white people in the class, and they TALK TOO DAM MUCH!!! its like SHUT UP!!! I DONT WANNA HEAR YOU!!!!! And they all sit in the front and the black people sit in the back!!! WTF is that!!! its BS!! Anyway thats my rant for the day
