Long awaited update

I tried to update before, but when I went to post it, it freaked out on me. So, this is going to shorter.

D.C. is great but at a much faster pace in life than I am used to back in D-town. Not to say that I don't miss my D-town peeps, esp. one half-Scottish, half-Black man. There's always so much to do here that I only hope I can do half the stuff before I leave. With monuments and museums being free, there's always something to do. Night life is also wild and I've probably been drinking more cheap wine than I ever will in my life. Lobbyists always throw parties to smooze over congressmen. The last one I went to was the pet lobby that handed out all this info on how to take care of your pet...during my journey through Tipsyland, I took a picture with teh dog from Frasier, but then dropped it somewhere on the walk back home. It's funny getting drunk with all these people in suits and ties standing around.

Patriotism, I've realized, is not some bullshit where you stand behind your commander-in-cheif, regardless of what he says and does. The Judiciary committee had a hearing today about the PATRIOT ACT and the ranking democrat, Leahy, I think it was, talked about how much nonsense it is that Republicans dare to call Democrats unpatriotic. With a look of disgust on his face he said something to tune of, "It's ridiculous." And it is. Conservatives getting the nerve to say that all liberals hate this country, yet not once have they seen the fervor that liberal and other Democratic politicians fight with when defending the constitution. Sen. Durbin probably put it the best when he said, "All of us here, both sides of the aisle, have something in common and that is that we are all sworn defenders of the Constitution." And it's true. Republicans may play dirty tricks, but they are still sworn as defenders of the Constitution. So when a conservative, without having a clue about TRUE politicians, says to me that liberals are unpatriotic, I ask them to open their damn eyes and see the sacrifice that Democrat, as well as Republican senators make. My God, people, if know enough about the world and want to criticize the stance your country takes, that doesn't make you hate your country...it's almost as if the love for this nation is the one uniting factor between Repubs and Dems.

In other news, Rebeca and I have broken up. It has bee a very painful week ever since. It's hard to think of the person you were with for over a year, to now all of a sudden be a person you can only shake hands with and give a hug....even hugs with this person will never be the same. But you have to move on and in the end, all we really have with people are our intangible relationships with undefinable labels. I can only hope that when we look back at our relationship, that despite all the fights and arguments, we still had a passion that can never be matched by anyone else. It's corny, but everyone we love deeply will always have some special place in our heart that can never be replaced. If anything, I hope that we've both learned and that our paths will no diverge at this point, but instead keep a close connection and alignment.

The country is going through a scary time, no matter what party you affiliate with. I can only pray that in the end, the best choices will be made.
