I have to agree with the fine chaps over at Penny Arcade and voice my opinion that the Kindle is an abomination. There is no need for electronic books. It is impractical to wander the city streets with one cd in your walkman, or to be forced to use cash everywhere in Madrid. These are mediums in which electronic translation should be embraced and celebrated, perhaps with a flurry of trumpet salutes and midday parades. Video games, though unnecessarily, will likely also stumble down this path, as DSs and iPhones continue to support SD Card roms.

But no one reads a book in more than 3 days, at least no one with any normal commuter schedule. The electronic book is superfluous. Are you going to start reading 4 or 5 books at once? Do you have a gnawing fear of starting a book, hating it, and having no back up book to replace it?

I will never buy a Kindle.
