books and time wasting

What an annoying day! I've spent most of the day, barring sporadic detours to my friends page, looking for jobs. I've applied for a sum total of one. That's right, one. I managed two yesterday in half the time. Pfft.

I keep meaning to post stuff here and then not. Two hours of free time per day does not go a long way and that's for damn sure. Plus my head is stupid at the moment, leading to The Fear and other mental phenomena.

I just read finished reading Snowcrash by Neal Stevenson, finally, after many years of many recommendations. It took me over a hundred pages to get into it, which was heavy going, but I did enjoy it in the end and it does have some very interesting stuff in it. I think the pacing was pretty awful but the ideas were ace. I also suspect the author might be suffering from men-are-all-flawed-but-I've-put-women-up-on-a-pedestal-itis (a classic Whedonism). But the various ideas about communication and the internet and viruses got me excited and caused many a thought to surface and percolate.

Time for supermarket shopping (le sigh). More later, if you're lucky ;)
