August 1990: I had been the delivery boy for the convenient store in our building all summer. I didn't get an hourly wage, but I got tips from the people to whom I delivered their loaves of bread and their 12-packs. By mid-august, I had enough money to afford my first board. I went to "Vertical", the local skateboard shop and brought back home my first board: A Powell-Peralata, Steve Cabalero board. As soon as i got my board, I quit my job at the convenient store and practiced for the rest of the summer. If I couldn't express myself, I could at least vent it out on my board. I never would've thought that a sport would turn out to be my first love?
