The (Mis)Adventures of (Miss) Tsukushi

Apr 20, 2010 23:02

I posted this as a response to a response to a response to a post sociologique had made about car trouble, and I thought it was amusing so I decided to post it here.

I own a silver Mercedes-Benz C230. And no, I am not rich by any stretch of the imagination, unless you compare me to the people of the country where I was born. My pride and joy, and registered as solely mine, even if my parents drive her more than I do. Her name is Maria Antonia Josepha Johanna Sofia Carmina Tsukushi. I gave her a long, princessy name to reflect the princessy nature of the car - the first two namesakes are an allusion to my own privilege I know I'm lucky to the point of spoiled, but I try my damnedest not to act like it and the last namesake is an allusion to my decidedly poor commoner middle-class upbringing. But I just call her Tsukushi <3

So, a couple weeks (literally like two weeks) after I graduated and moved back home, my dad crashed his car stupid accident involving a three-legged dog, Dad's dubious reflexes and a hill so we obviously had to get a new one. I mean, not only was his car completely out of commission, but I had moved back home and it was high time for me to begin driving since I was to find a job immediately. So we went to the trusty local Toyota dealership to get a sensible and affordable Corolla (like any postgrad Asian kid & her family would get, and like we'd had for years before we switched to 4Runners), but (1) my mom hated the microfiber seats (apparently they "look poor") and (2) she saw a used (2007) Mercedes in the parking lot for the same price as the new (2010) Corolla. Like any Asian mom, she chose the Mercedes, and like any Asian mom, her word was law. So I am the proud owner of an almost mint-condition Mercedes-Benz which my dad crashed about 3 weeks ago, and whose bumper we just replaced... I kind of want to smack my dad sometimes although I drive my mom's 4Runner for work and school because there is no way in hell I'm tooling around the mean streets of Daly City in my precious Tsukushi. Unless I'm going to church. And even that's a gamble, because someone fucking broke into my mother's 4Runner when she was in church because they thought her Gucci document bag was real. It wasn't.

TL;DR my dad pulled a Matsujun but with a three-legged dog instead of snow, my mom has expensive taste like most Asian moms and the used Mercedes cost as much as a new Corolla. Easy choice to make XD... the only problem now is, how the fuck am I going to pay for it. I'm out of a job, finding a new job is tough, finding a job that will pay enough is probably tougher, and my mom can't pay for it because she's got the mortgage and there's only four residents in our six-person carehome. We're getting by, but only just.
