Legalese + Japanese = Tokujo Kabachi!!

Finally got around to watching "Tokujo Kabachi!!" (the exclamation points are in the title lol) and it's really cute. I've never really been fascinated by law, but put crazy manga/anime-style graphics and Sho Sakurai on top and I am all over that shit (this method can probably explain the success of News Zero in Japan) XD Seriously though, this is an adorable approach for such a dry-sounding premise (former-delinquent tough girl and bright-eyed, bushy-tailed newbie use incredibly obscure laws to solve cases as not-quite-lawyers... Law and Order it ain't). I especially like the interactive Q&A when Tamura is working on a case; very in-character, as he begins the series by "studying" for his administrative scrivener exam, and an interesting way for the viewers to get involved (since Sho calls people LIVE after the show is done).

Speaking of scriveners, I'm going to take the census exam later; if I pass I will be a census taker, which might lead to permanent employment somewhere in the government. WISH ME LUCK!!!

Anyway, back to "TK!!": I love the chemistry between the two leads so far. Not chemistry in the romantic sense, but in the acting sense; indeed, they are bitter opponents for the first two episodes lol. I like the hot-and-cold dynamics between Sho Sakurai's overheated hero and Maki Horikita's ice princess, and it would probably ruin the series if they did get together in the traditional romantic sense. Furthermore, they look like siblings: both have big doe eyes, short hair in deep side parts - on the same side to boot - and very angular face structures but with rounded chipmunk cheeks... come to think of it, Maki would make a better little sister for Sho than for Jun (with whom she'll star in Wagaya no Rekishi later this year). But yeah, I love Maki's character cos it's amusing to see sweet little Maki get her grown woman on. I got used to her as Ashiya in Hana-Kimi so I'm not used to seeing her as a working girl, but being 22 and always mistaken for someone much younger myself I can see how she could pass for 22. Sho is, well, Sho - adorable, overly earnest, straight-and-narrow, a little hot-blooded at times, a big softie, a total failboat. It seems as if every role that Sho's ever done - from Yatterman to yankee - is exactly how he would be in real life... I don't know if that makes him an incredibly good actor or an incredibly bad actor lol. It was hard to root for one or the other: as a girl - and a jobless twenty-two-year-old girl at that - I gotta admire Maki's go-getting character, but she is incredibly ruthless behind that sweet face; meanwhile, I love Sho - nope, no biases here, nosireebob - but his earnest heart is really getting in the way of his job. Well, we'll see how this develops as more episodes get put up.

But all other elements aside, I will never get tired of watching Sho get (comedically) smacked around and/or molested, either by fate or other people XDDDDDD... I especially like the sequence where the owner of the new-half bar gets all up in his face, then orders him to carry around replicas of Michaelangelo's David in exchange for the bar's services, then proceeds to express gratitude in the form of a giant manly bear hug and a healthy squeeze to Sho's cute little puffy squish butt. haha. Also, I was a little too amused by the fact that Sho is working for Ohno (seriously, the agency is called "Ohno Administrative Scriveners Agency") :D

omfg joanne stop wasting time, joanne watches too much japanese tv, take a sho sho
