At the Cherry Blossom Festival last month, this guy from Japan laid out these huge white cloths (something like five in all) and let everyone draw/write messages of support on them. Each of the banners is going to a different town around Sendai. Since I thought this was really awesome, and since I already have a tonne of photos from the Cherry Blossom Festival, I thought this warranted its own post.
This is one of the banners:

These banners were huuuuuuge. They spanned a good part of the cherry blossom grove next to the J-Town pagoda (which, granted, isn't that big, but that is a LOT of writing space lol)

NorCal loves Japan! Also, I always wanted a Nor+Cal sweatshirt growing up - everyone had them in high school (they were like $40) and I wanted one in college to piss off all the SoCalers, but never got to buy one XD

Lol, Hello Kitty has a mouth. And is apparently a hipster: tall, skinny, holding a can of PBR. FACEPALM. Well, that's San Francisco for you I guess. I can't be too cynical though, cos this hipster has heart.

Someone really likes The Outsiders. Or Utada. Or both (hey, can't blame 'em).

Lol, "countery." Well, English probably isn't their first language so whatev (I saw messages from as far away as France and Belgium).

I think this would make an awesome Japan Relief t-shirt design - bold, profound, and graphically pleasing (love the red disk for the O). And it would focus on Japan rising again instead of the tragedy that already happened.

I love any combination of the Japanese flag and hearts; usually, people draw a heart around the red disk on a white background, but I like the inversion here. It would also make a good t-shirt.

TRIPPIEST "NIPPON" KANJI EVER Y/Y... love the psychedelic designs here.

Yay, flag-waving squirrel XD... I love how simple and cute this is.
And of course, I can't ever resist drawing on a blank surface meant to be drawn on:

Well, you can all guess who I drew haha... I don't know if they're recognisable enough out of context, but how awesome would it be if some kid in Sendai looked at this doodle of mine and was like "hey, this American chick drew my favourite band!" XD Btdubs, it's hella hard to draw upright on a wall, u gaiz Also, the guy who brought the banners seemed to really like it, which made me happy.
So yeah, this was probably my favourite part of this year's Cherry Blossom Festival.
